Job description

About our client

Our client is a fast-growing consultancy with over 1000 consultants, and offices across the world’s leading energy markets; Sydney, Singapore, London, New York, Germany and Bulgaria. They are a consultancy with a difference; they put their people first, and are passionate about providing their own clients with deep technical and industry insights that deliver real and measurable results – with pragmatism. Being an independent consultancy, they are not afraid to bring their own point of view, and challenge to help clients create outcomes that are right for them.

About the role

They are currently looking for an experienced markets and commercial advisor to join their growing advisory team in Singapore. The right candidate will be able to work with a broad spectrum of clients to develop power market models, provide in-depth insights on price forecasting, asset valuation and regulatory policies. Also, in keeping with their strong people focus, they need people who are just as passionate about their own development, and that of their team, as they are about their industries.

Your responsibilities

  •  Perform fundamentals-based research on selected power markets, taking into consideration current generation mix, regulatory policies, emission targets, and other market-specific factors.

  • Apply the fundamentals-based research towards developing and maintaining power market models, so as to produce robust modelling of electricity price projections and fuel mix forecasts.

  • Providing bespoke market advisory to clients, which can include transaction advisory (buy-side and sell-side), PPA structuring, market opportunity assessment, or evaluation of impending policy or rule changes.

  • Delivering regulatory advisory engagements, including advising regulators or state-owned utilities on market structures, energy transition policies, etc.

You will have

  • Energy experience of at least 4 years, with an in-depth understanding of the power market dynamics in Asia-Pacific markets (ideally direct experience in 1-2 specific markets including Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia).

  • Quantitative skills/capability (ideally, power market modelling experience).

  • Experience in asset valuation, commercial due diligence and transaction advisory, and familiarity with PPA structures, clauses, and the impact on bankability.

  • Experience in providing analysis to investors, developers, lenders and off-takers, based on detailed quantitative analysis and providing advice grounded in facts.

  • Familiarity across a range of regulatory structures, spanning Single Buyer-type arrangements, hybrid off-take between Single Buyer and commercial buyers, to fully liberalised markets.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English. Knowledge of another Asian language particularly Korean and/or Japanese is an added advantage.
