About the role

The Asia Director is responsible for setting the strategy & direction of the regional business, aligned with overall company strategy. Ownership of the full Asia business P&L, business development and operations management activities in their area. The role is supported by HR & Finance business partners as well as the Leadership Team & global business unit owners


Your responsibilities 

Business Strategy & Direction

  • Managing, supporting and providing direction and leadership for the region, identification of market trends, understanding of the competitive landscape and working with clients & partners to pursue, win & deliver complex engineering solutions.

  • Aligned with overall company objectives, set the business strategy for Asia.

  • Responsibility for the P&L in Asia.

  • Proactively analyze growth opportunities in current & new markets in Asia. Prepare and present to leadership new business proposals.

  • Contribute to the leadership team in terms of business performance, provide any analysis of the business and suggest any changes or support required in the future.

  • Attend annual global strategy meetings, quarterly business reviews. Deliver business updates to the Asia team quarterly on business performance and all other important company updates.   


Operational Delivery

  • Resource planning; working closely with all stakeholders and general managers to ensure optimum deployment of engineering resources.

  • Work with the individual general managers to accurately forecast   additional   technical   resource   requirements   and working closely with the recruitment team and sources such as universities to select appropriate candidates.

  • Manage, monitor and control specific budgets for activities undertaken in their area. 

  • Responsibility for monitoring aged debt and following up with clients to ensure that any issues get resolved in a timely manner.

  • Sponsor & Support the knowledge management, technical upskilling and continuous improvement initiatives.


Sales & Business Development

  • Work with Global sales leadership and Local sales personnel to ensure sales targets achievement in each of the countries & region.

  • Works closely with key internal stakeholders to inform discussions and agree an appropriate client/site sales strategy and critical project pursuit strategy.

  • Identify   opportunities   and    execute   sales   activities   aligning with strategic objectives where appropriate.

  • With support from the Global & local proposals lead, ensure timely response to client enquiry.

  • Report on sales activity and strategy to the regional and global management.

  • Lead and finalize technical and commercial negotiations with clients including full contract review, where necessary.



  • Ensure frequent & regular communication with Asia leadership team across Singapore, India & China and manage performance management for all direct reports.

  • Excellent cross functional people leadership and management skills– across regions, customers and 3rd parties.

  • Proven ability to influence senior Leaders and motivate sales, cross functional and regional teams.


You will have

Minimum of 15 years’ experience within the life sciences sector with at least five of those at Director or General Manager level. Previous experience in consultative selling to the life science sector, P&L ownership of a business unit or function.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a strong ability to motivate.

  • Successful experience in leading high-profile projects in the Lifescience industry, managing priorities, budgeting, tasks and resources.

  • Strong problem solving and technical innovation skills.

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Team player with a ‘can-do’ positive attitude.

  • Motivated by working to targets, and willingness to go outside their comfort zone.

  • Experience in pre-sales discussion and project negotiation at a range of client levels.

  • Able to travel frequently as required by the business. Commitment to continuous learning and development. Sound working knowledge of S88, S95.

  • Familiar with a variety of SCADA/PLC and DCS technologies.

  • Familiar with electrical installations and industrial instrumentation.

  • Familiar with the delivery of projects in the highly regulated Lifescience environment.

  • Project management accreditation is desirable.

  • Proficient in the following languages: English & Mandarin.
